Waverly defeats Veritas boys

? Elijah Penny scored 17 points, and Thomas Bachert added nine, but Veritas Christian fell to Waverly, 52-39, on Friday night in high school boys basketball.

Waverly forced the Eagles into 27 turnovers.

“We battled this team really hard. They’re probably the best defense we’ve seen all year,” Veritas coach Gary Hammer said. “It was still a game early in the fourth quarter. They made you work to protect the ball and real hard to run your offense. I was proud of the way our guys fought.”

Veritas (8-8) will travel to Manhattan tonight to face Flint Hills Christian.
