The Kansas basketball team had won at Oklahoma but then stumbled in a visit to Nebraska. The Jayhawks of Ted Owens were en route to a 17-9 season record and an 8-6 league mark that won second place. KU’s leading scorers for the year were Dave Robisch, Pierre Russell, Bud Stallworth, Bob Kivisto and Roger Brown. There would be no NCAA tournament appearance.
