Organizers of the Kansas University greek community’s annual variety show to benefit charity hope to raise more than $70,000 for the United Way.

Rock Chalk Revue features five musical performances by members of fraternities and sororities at the Lied Center. This year’s theme is Full Speed Ahead, a nod to the success of last year’s performance, which raised a record $60,000, said Stephen Fessler, the show’s executive producer.

“Last year was our big 60-year milestone,” he said. “We just want to keep the momentum going.”

Performances are scheduled for 7 p.m. March 4, 5 and 6 at the Lied Center. Tickets can be purchased Monday by calling the Lied Center’s Box Office at 864-2787.

On March 4-5, tickets are available to KU and Haskell students for $15, and $18 to the public. Tickets are $25 on March 6.

The show is continuing to reach out to members of the business community in an effort to gain corporate sponsors, and has already secured some, including Silpada Designs, a Kansas City-area direct-sales jewelry company.

In addition to advertising on fliers across campus, the show is reaching out to area high school theater departments to gauge their interest in attending, Fessler said.

The performers are currently rehearsing and spending an hour seven days a week running through different songs and performances, said Patrick Peterson, co-executive director of the show.

Each of the shows will feature four different songs in a 25-minute performance, he said.

“The selection process itself was very, very close this year, which just speaks to the quality of the shows that are here,” Peterson said.
