Douglas County prosecutors on Tuesday filed an aggravated assault charge against a 46-year-old Lawrence man who was accused of threatening his girlfriend with a knife during an argument at 10 p.m. Sunday in the 600 block of Schwarz Road.

The girlfriend, 39, of Lawrence, also alleged he verbally threatened her, said Sgt. Matt Sarna, a Lawrence police spokesman. Police arrested John Paul Cron at 5 p.m. Monday in connection with the case, and prosecutors filed the charge against him Tuesday. A judge set his bond at $10,000, cash or surety.

to all those who insist here in the LJW comments and elsewhere that KU athletes get off easy...

note that this perp's name isn't in the paper...

That doesn't really disprove that KU athletes get off easy...

Did Morningstar ever do any time?

far be it from me to disprove or prove anything here in these comments...

simply observing and commenting...

as for Morningstar... I don't think he did any time... other than maybe a mandatory overnight lock-up... but it's my understanding that it was his first DUI and it's my understanding that people generally don't do any time for first offense DUIs...

on the other hand... I'm not sure that it's getting off easy... compared to your average joe... when you get newspaper articles published about your DUI... or in Mario Little's case for pushing his girlfriend...

I wonder how many girl friends got pushed by their boyfriends that night...

I wonder how many guys got DUIs the night Morningstar got his...

seems to me that these guys get treated like anyone else by the legal system but pay far greater than most in public scrutiny...

Wow. Threaten someone with a knife, get out on $10K.

Threaten seven people and hit one with a truck, get the same.

The moral: if you want to do a crime, make a vehicle your weapon of choice.

Ditto, gnome. No one-woman or man-needs an abuser in their life.

Restraining order? Those are just for girls who are playing hard to get.

he was an individual who seemed like a very polite neighbor until the night i heard a loud crash and a woman screaming. living very closely to the couple involved makes me sad for both. but more for her. no names are needed. either way two people's lives are not what they should be. no one should be afraid of the one they love. to the people that commented on this..realize it has nothing to do with where they're from.

Nice people..Just have had a lot of bad things happen in their lives over the past year..They have been together forever..No excuse to put your hands on anyone though..Maybe the time in jail will give him time to reflect on his choices in life...Sure they will be back together when its all said and done.
