A 37-year-old Lawrence woman alleged her brother threatened her and pulled a knife during a disturbance at 8:30 p.m. Monday in the 1900 block of East 19th Street. Police later arrested the 32-year-old Lawrence man on an aggravated assault charge. He remained in the Douglas County Jail Tuesday, but prosecutors had not yet filed official charges.

Sounds like it meets the standards for a DV(mandatory) arrest.

smitty, I am not being antagonictic here, but you probably should read the updated definition of DV. It has changed several times and you might be (not sure) going off the original description. And besides, he allegedly had a knife, which would pretty much call for an arrest in any situation.

Thanks for the civility. You are correct in your assumption.
Some of what I've observed during and after the "Little" rants on DV....
The use of the term domestic violence by the local press has changed. Whether it is due to the LPD's change in the use of the term is unknown.
Little's story was in the top ten clicks, yet it does not come up in the JW archive search(unless that has been corrected) KU's problems and public relations are more behind his infamous jump into popularity than domestic violence rants, IMO.
Part of the DV statues were posted and read.

When a situation is tagged a domestic dispute, there is a tendency to not treat the acts of violence and threats with the same concern for the victim if it had happened between strangers. Thus, the part of the DV statute on mandatory arrest addresses LE requirements. As noted, these acts of violence always were and still are against the laws but were not enforced without the DV statutes. However, who polices the police? I don't believe this law addresses enforcement.

we can joke because she's apparently uninjured.
I hope she gets some counseling for this as it would've been traumatic.
you can pick your friends. you can pick your neighbors. you can pick your fellow workers somewhat. but you sure can't pick family!
