— A Montezuma man who won a seat in the Kansas House in August has been chosen to fill an empty seat in the state Senate instead.

Garrett Love was elected Monday in Ford County to replace state Sen. Tim Huelskamp in the 38th District in the Kansas Senate. Huelskamp will take Rep. Jerry Moran’s seat in the U.S. House. Moran will replace outgoing Sen. Sam Brownback when Brownback becomes governor in January.

Love defeated former state Rep. Melvin Neufeld during a nominating convention hosted by the Ford County Republican Central Committee in Dodge City. Love also defeated Neufeld in August in the August primary for the GOP seat in the Kansas House.

The Dodge City Daily Globe reports that a convention to fill Love’s vacant seat in the Kansas House is tentatively set for Jan. 7.

a kid Garrett Love being elected to Kansas House -- but now being appointed to fill the seat of the extremely Opus Deus right wing Tim Huelskamp who is going to US Congress to replace somewhat rational Jerry Moran who replaced right wing Opus Deus Senator Sam Brownback who just became Governor of Kansas. This could be a great story for some bright journalist to cover during the year...oh, yes, still one more to be appointed out here -- maybe the guy that Love beat so bad to begin with -- Rep. Melvin Neufeld -- will get back his seat. Gee that sounds like an open free vote, huh.

First time that an area will have totally appointed Kansas legislatures. Weird. And mostly very rightwing Roman Catholics, too. Run science teachers -- here comes those 6,000 year old rocks.

I can't wait for Tom Shewmon to start calling him the Appointed One!
