Missing man’s clothes found near Smoky Hill River southeast of Salina

? Authorities have been searching for a man whose clothes were found strewn near the Smoky Hill River southeast of Salina.

The Salina Journal reported Tuesday that a jogger called authorities Sunday after finding a coat that contained the identification for 47-year-old Tomas Benitez.

Capt. Brian Shea of the Saline County Sheriff’s Office said shoes, pants and socks also were located.

Authorities have walked along the riverbank and floated the river in a canoe looking for clues.

Benitez had lived in an apartment that was damaged by fire. He had been living at the Salina Rescue Mission as recently as the first week in December.
