Scouting news for December 18, 2010

The Boy Scouts of Troop 52, chartered to First United Methodist Church of Lawrence, spent the weekend of Dec. 4 at the Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha, Neb.

The highlight of the trip was getting to sleep Saturday evening in the “Shark Tunnel,” surrounded on all sides and overhead by schools of fish, sharks and manta rays. No leaks were reported.

Scouts attending were John Anderson, Andrew Bireta, Joseph Cary, Eric Glogau, Ryan Glogau, John McArthur, Jamie Messer, Robert Newman, Finn Nesbitt-Daly, John Peterson, Thomas Peterson, Eli Schneck, Mark Smith and Gavin Spence. Adult leaders were Cyndy Glogau, Chris Anderson, Jace Newman, Marlon Schneck, Kent Peterson and Dan Cary.

Girl Scout cookies will arrive Jan. 10 at the Douglas County Fairgrounds. Volunteers are needed from noon to 7 p.m. to sort cookies and help troop leaders load their vehicles.
