One lane in each direction to close on portion of 23rd Street on Monday, Tuesday

Be prepared for slow-moving traffic next week along a section of East 23rd Street.

Between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday, the Kansas Department of Transportation will close both the eastbound and westbound left lane on 23rd Street, from Barker Avenue to Haskell Avenue.

One lane will be open in each direction, and traffic will be directed through the work zone with signs and cones. The lanes will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day.

KDOT expects traffic delays through the area and asks drivers to allow extra time in their daily commute.

KDOT is taking core drillings in preparation for a bridge replacement project scheduled for 2012. During that project, the entire 23rd Street bridge will be closed and traffic will be rerouted along frontage roads.
