Douglas County personal property taxes, portion of real estate property taxes due Dec. 20, 2010

Douglas County residents have until Dec. 20 to pay the first half of their real estate property taxes.

The full amount of personal property tax, which includes taxes on mobile homes, campers and boats, is also due on Dec. 20.

For those who fail to pay on time, a 7 percent annual interest accrues on the total amount after Dec. 20. Real estate property taxes won’t be considered officially delinquent until after the second half is due on May 10, Douglas County Treasurer Paula Gilchrist said.

The Douglas County Treasurer’s office has a new Web site for paying taxes online. Residents can go to http://ks-douglas.manatron.com and pay using a debit card, credit card or e-check. Payment processors charge a fee for the service.

Through the site, the county can now accept late payments online. The site will calculate the penalties and interest added onto late payments.

For those sending payments by mail, tax bills won’t be considered late as long are postmarked by Dec. 20.

Tax bills were sent out to residents in the middle of November.
