State of despair

To the editor:

I give you one man’s State of the Union.

  1. Republicans are now stopping all legislation unless millionaires and billionaires continue to receive a tax break (which has had no positive economic effect for the country over the last 10 years).
  2. One anonymous senator can block any legislation from coming to a vote (effectively stifling meaningful action).
  3. Changing 200 years of precedent, you now need a “super majority” of 60 senators to pass legislation (through the abuse of the filibuster rule).
  4. International corporations and the super rich, with their now unlimited funding of political campaigns, are in the process of owning (or already own) Washington.
  5. President Obama has either sold out to the moneyed aristocracy (see No. 4) or has the backbone of a jellyfish and the fighting instincts of a whining, newborn puppy. (What a disappointment he’s been.)

Increasingly it seems that those in Washington (Democrats and Republicans) care nothing about the common people (i.e., the majority of this country) and are but piglets sucking on the super wealthy and international corporate teats. I have a growing disgust and despair for where our country is heading.
