Mariah Carey has now been around long enough to have recorded her second Christmas album. “Mariah Carey: Merry Christmas to You” (8 p.m., ABC) features songs from her new album “Merry Christmas II You,” a follow up to her 1994 multiplatinum hit “Merry Christmas.” Taped at the Orpheum Theater in Los Angeles.

• In a move as logical as it is inevitable, the CW has decided to act like a cable network and throw out its regular schedule for the week and show only episodes of “The Vampire Diaries” (7 p.m. and 8 p.m.) all week long.

At the risk of offending some fans of “Gossip Girl” or “Supernatural,” this programming stunt may get some viewers hooked on the “Vampire” habit. Countless cable series were launched this way. “Project Runway” was a bit of a dud when it first aired, but Bravo believed in it and broadcast little else for weekends at a time and turned the show into a must-see for many.

Tonight’s “Vampire” marathon begins with the second-season opener in which Elena discovers her dead uncle’s body (7 p.m.), followed (8 p.m.) by Carol undergoing unexpected transformations. Will viewers bite?

• In other marathon news, the Food Network will be airing 21 viewers’ favorites of “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives” (7 p.m., Food) over the course of the week. Things kick off with a “Best of” episode, followed by an original “Diner” (8 p.m.) that travels to Belmar, N.J., in search of a Mexican restaurant specializing in homemade adobo sauce. Seems like you can find everything on the Jersey shore these days.

• Food network’s 21 trips to the “Diner” may seem a tad risky, cholesterol-wise, but it pales before a six-episode marathon of “1000 Ways to Die” (6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m., Spike).

• Zooey Deschanel stars in “Tin Man” (7 p.m., Syfy), the ambitious 2007 miniseries re-imagination of the “Wizard of Oz” tale. Co-stars include Neal McDonough, Alan Cumming, and Richard Dreyfuss.
