Chiefs’ Cassel out for Chargers game

? Quarterback Matt Cassel didn’t travel to San Diego on Saturday and is out for the Chiefs’ game today against the Chargers.

Cassel, having the finest year of his career for the AFC West-leading Chiefs (8-4), underwent an emergency appendectomy Wednesday morning. The Chiefs refused to say all week whether he would be available for the game against the Chargers, who are in second place behind Kansas City in the AFC West.

Also, ESPN.com is reporting that, according to a league source, the Chiefs have reached a 5-year, $32-million deal with running back Jamaal Charles, which includes $13 million guaranteed.

Giants stuck in Kansas City

Minneapolis — Brett Favre has to love a snowstorm. His ailing shoulder has been given another day to heal.

The Giants-Vikings game was moved to Monday night because Minnesota had at least 15 inches of snow and wind gusting over 30 mph and the New York team was waiting it out in Kansas City.

Kickoff time was set for 7 p.m. Monday. TV arrangements were pending late Saturday night.
