Police searching for car after hit-and-run accident on Massachusetts Street

Officers respond to a hit-and-run victim early Saturday morning.

Lawrence police are searching for a light-colored car involved in a hit-and-run accident early Saturday morning.

According to Lawrence Police Sgt. Susan Hadl, an 18-year-old Kansas University student was crossing the street in the 700 block of Massachusetts Street when she was hit about 2 a.m. Hadl said she hit the windshield of the car.

Hadl said the car was a late-2000s model, silver or white and possibly a Toyota Camry. The car fled the scene heading southbound on Massachusetts Street. Witnesses chased the car until they saw a patrol car in the area to report the accident.

Police blocked off Massachusetts Street between Seventh and Eighth streets. The woman was transported by ambulance to Lawrence Memorial Hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries where she was treated and released. Police Sgt. Ted Bordman could not release the victim’s name.

Hadl said the car could possibly have front-end or windshield damage. Anyone with information about the accident should call Crime Stoppers at 843-TIPS.
