A defense attorney on Wednesday said he doesn’t expect a trial to be held on allegations that a former Kansas University football player held four students at gunpoint last May.

Joshua Allen, the attorney for Jamal Greene, told Douglas County District Judge Paula Martin that the two sides could have a resolution in the case in February.

“We just have a few more details to work out,” Allen told the judge.

Greene, whose trial is scheduled for Feb. 7, is accused of holding four KU students at gunpoint May 14 at Tuckaway Apartments, 2600 W. Sixth St., while another former KU player Vernon Brooks went to a back bedroom in the apartment.

Prosecutors and police allege Greene and Brooks entered the apartment because they thought they could steal drugs and money from a back bedroom. Brooks was dismissed from the team earlier last spring, and Greene was kicked off the team after he was arrested in this case.

Both men face separate trials on one count each of aggravated burglary, four counts of aggravated assault and one count of conspiracy to commit aggravated burglary.

Greene, who is 23 and initially from Kansas City, Kan., played football this fall for Mid-America Nazarene University of Olathe.
