Poet’s Showcase: ‘Little Spirit’

Little spirit, oh child of mine,

you bring such warmth

to my cold, cold night —

you dispel, my every fright.

Like the sweetest red wine,

you easily bring forth

a most palpable sight —

smile, twinkle, delight.

Dancing, playing, living–as

if divine,

turning migrating birds suddenly North,

bringing to the darkest room, a gentle light —

bestowing upon the weakest man, new-found might.

But sadly, today, I pray for a sign,

the sign that God will guide henceforth;

for I grow evermore towards twilight,

and you, towards your matrimonial knight.
