Topeka man killed in car chase following shooting, stabbing report in Osage County

Shawnee County authorities say Elbert W. Davis, Jr., 61, of Topeka, was killed after a police pursuit that began when a woman reported she had been shot and stabbed.

Sheriff’s Sgt. Danny Lotridge says the woman drove to the Osage County Sheriff’s office Monday night to report she had been attacked in her rural Osage County home.

The chase began when an Osage County sheriff’s deputy spotted a vehicle matching a description the victim had given authorities. The chase reached speeds of more than 90 mph, and eventually entered Shawnee County.

Davis eventually hit an overpass pillar on U.S. 75 and his minivan caught on fire. He was pulled from the vehicle, but died at the scene.
