Fort Hays State banishes smokers

? Smokers at Fort Hays University will be able to light up only in designated parking lots starting Sept. 1.

University student body President Tyler Thompson says the new policy was prompted by complaints from students about having to walk through smoke on their way to classes.

The Hays Daily News reports that the new policy also includes the university’s pavilion, farm, rodeo grounds, Sternberg Museum of Natural History and Kansas Wetlands Education Center.

The new policy replaces one adopted in 2008.

Along with the new policy, the Student Health Center will offer free office visits and medication to help people stop smoking.
