Douglas County law enforcement officers and firefighters will square off on the gridiron later this month to raise funds for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Douglas County.

The friendly flag-football game will be noon Aug. 29 at the Lawrence High School stadium, 1901 La. The public is welcome. The suggested donation to attend is $5, and all proceeds will benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters.

A team of Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical workers will face a law enforcement team of officers from the Lawrence Police Department, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and Kansas University Public Safety Office.

It’s expected to be the first game in an annual series. The winner will earn a trophy, but it will be traveling trophy that could be passed back and forth each year.

Good thing it is at noon, wouldn't want to bother the neighbors with any lights.

With all of the police officers there parking and traffic control won't be a problem.

My money is on the firefighters... You know, nothing to do after their shifts but walk, run and lift weights while gettin' paid.

Didn't there used to be a boxing tournament? I'd pay to see that comedy.

I'm betting firefighters too. They are required to do conditioning every shift.

Yes, they do conditioning every shift. Of course they are getting paid for it and they can still make it back to the stationhouse if there is an emergency that requires extra help. They don't have to be in their vehicles patrolling around far-reaching areas of the city and responding to "routine" calls all shift.
