KU football team scrimmages

Kansas University’s football team held a 90-minute scrimmage on Saturday night at Memorial Stadium.

The scrimmage began with five drives starting at the defensive team’s 20-yard line. Quarterback Jordan Webb ran three series, hitting Daymond Patterson on a 15-yard scoring toss and setting up a pair of field goals. Kale Pick led the offense to another score as his 15-yard run helped set up a two-yard scoring rush by James Sims.

Red-shirt freshman Christian Matthews, a 6-1 receiver from Arlington, Texas, who is a converted quarterback, repeatedly used his speed and clever footwork to make big plays. On one play, cornerback Calvin Rubles was flagged for pass interference, preventing Matthews from scoring what would likely have been a touchdown. The Jayhawks will return to the practice field for their final two-a-day workout Monday.
