Friends, family remember late Chief Justice Davis at funeral service

Friends and family gathered with state dignitaries to honor the life of the late Chief Justice Robert Davis.

Gov. Mark Parkinson and Secretary of State Chris Biggs were among those who remembered Davis as a kind man who was proud of his public service to Kansas during funeral services Monday at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Leavenworth.

Davis died Aug. 4, a day after he retired from the Kansas Supreme Court because of medical conditions. He was appointed to the court in 1993 and was chief justice since January 2009.

The Leavenworth Times reports that Carolyn Davis, one of Davis’ five children, said her father loved both the work and play of his life. She said it was a challenge not to have a good time when you were with Davis.
