Topeka Republican Kris Kobach has picked up the endorsement of a former GOP rival in the Kansas secretary of state's race.
Shawnee County Election Commissioner Elizabeth Ensley announced Tuesday that she's supporting Kobach, a University of Missouri-Kansas City law professor.
Kobach defeated Ensley and Salina resident J.R. Claeys (klayz) in last week's Republican primary. Claeys, a former executive of a national business group, has also endorsed Kobach.
Kobach faces Democratic Secretary of State Chris Biggs in the November general election.
Biggs spokeswoman Abbie Hodgson says Ensley's endorsement of Kobach is purely political, noting Ensley sharply criticized him up until the election.
Kobach is known for his work on immigration issues, including helping to draft a new Arizona law.
