Douglas County Sheriff’s officers foiled a home burglary about 5 miles west of Lawrence on Friday night as they responded to a security system alarm.
Officers arrested three Topeka residents in connection with the burglary at a residence near East 500 Road and U.S. Highway 40.
Sgt. Steve Lewis, a sheriff’s spokesman, said that when officers arrived shortly after midnight Saturday they discovered a vehicle backed up to the garage door. Deputies began questioning two people inside the vehicle when a third person came out of the house.
The homeowners were out of state at the time. Deputies arrested on charges of burglary and criminal damage the three suspects: 54-year-old Randy Ridens, 22-year-old Chad Hewitt and 18-year-old Shanea Roney, all of Topeka.
The suspects have been charged in Douglas County District Court.

be careful who you tell that you're going on vacation.

Interesting that they named names. If they were from Lawrence I don't think the ljworld would have done that.

We name suspects in crimes after charges have been filed, regardless of where they are from. The only exception are sex crimes. In those cases, we do not name suspects until there is a conviction.

By now, that reply must be a macro function?

What AreUNormll says! Every time I see someone on Facebook talking about leaving for vacation, or comments about their vacation while still away, I cringe.

I cringe every time I see that some one actually admits to using Facebook.

I cringe every time someone makes another holier-than-thou statement directed towards Facebook users.

That's the best comeback you have? ...typical Facebook user, always copying someone else.

Lame. If you don't like Facebook, don't use it.
he_who_knows_all 2 years, 9 months ago
I don't. All I ever read about it is reason enough to not use it...Lawyers use it for divorce cases...stalkers use it...identity thieves use it....etc. etc.....

Dirty Little Secret Department: Unless they are already on probation or have multiple prior convictions, these people are NOT going to jail, or at least not for long. Under the Kansas Sentencing Guidelines, burglars and thieves and such ("property criminals") get repeated slaps on the hand before anything really ever happens to them (such as being locked up). So, I wouldn't sell the watchdog just yet.

I can't believe someone from Topeka is involved?
Again. we need to start charging a toll on our entry points to the west, or simply send a bill to topeka for all of our county's tax payers' money that is being burned up arresting Topeka residents.

....or just start shootin'.
