Prep Turner to visit KU
AAU teammate might come, too
Josiah Turner, the No. 12-ranked player in the college basketball recruiting Class of 2011, will attend the Oct. 15 Late Night in the Phog as part of his official recruiting visit to Kansas University.
Turner’s mom told Rivals.com on Sunday that her son’s Oakland Soldiers AAU teammate and good friend, No. 13-ranked Jabari Brown, also could visit the same weekend.
Turner, a 6-foot-3 senior point guard out of Sacramento (Calif.) High, has a list of KU, Arizona, Connecticut, Louisville, Oklahoma, Oregon and UCLA. Turner — he averaged 27.9 points, 5.8 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game last year — will visit Louisville the weekend of Sept. 4. He also attended KU’s Late Night last year.
Brown, a 6-5 senior shooting guard out of Oakland (Calif.) High, has a list of KU, Washington, Georgia Tech, Arizona, California, UConn, Georgetown and others. Brown averaged over 23 points a game his junior season.
Nick Johnson, a third member of the Oakland Soldiers, has told Rivals.com he’ll visit KU in early September. Johnson, a 6-2 senior shooting guard out of Findlay Prep High in Henderson, Nev., lists KU, Arizona, St. John’s, Cal, Gonzaga, Louisville and others. The country’s No. 45-ranked player averaged 14.1 points and 4.6 rebounds per game last season.
Global Challenge update: Several KU prospects competed at the Nike Global Challenge last weekend in Oregon.
Wichita Heights junior forward Perry Ellis’ USA South team won the tourney. The 6-8 Ellis, who has been battling sore knees, scored 10 points with seven boards in a 123-115 title victory over USA Midwest. He had six points in a victory over Brazil and 10 points with nine rebounds in a win over Canada.
The three Oakland Soldiers players competed for the U.S. West team. Johnson scored 32 in a victory over Asia and 22 in a loss to France; Turner 15 versus France and 10 versus Asia; Brown 25 versus France and 19 against Asia.
Jakarr Sampson, a 6-7 senior forward from St. Vincent-St. Mary High School in Akron, Ohio, who has a list of KU, Baylor, St. John’s, Ohio State and others, scored 10 points for U.S. Midwest in a victory over Asia and eight points in a win over France. He’s the country’s No. 37-rated player.
Austin may choose Baylor: The top big man in the recruiting Class of 2012 is expected to announce his college choice tonight at the Adidas Nations Experience in Chicago. Isaiah Austin, a 6-11, 200-pound junior center from Grace Prep High in Arlington, Texas, has a list of Baylor, Kentucky, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Arizona and UConn. Baylor is believed to be the leader for Austin, who competed last spring at the Jayhawk Invitational.
Rivals.com speaks with prospects: LeBryan Nash, a 6-7 senior forward from Dallas’ Lincoln High, says he will visit Baylor and Oklahoma. The country’s No. 4-rated player also is considering KU, St. John’s, Syracuse, Kentucky, Texas, UCLA and Oklahoma.
Shabazz Muhammad, a 6-5 junior shooting guard from Las Vegas’ Bishop Gorman High, has made an unofficial visit to Memphis. He will visit North Carolina for its Late Night. The No. 4 player in the Class of 2012 tells Rivals.com he is also considering KU, Kentucky, UCLA, Duke, UNLV, Louisville and Texas.
