Turnpike accident cleared, replaced by rush hour congestion

An injury accident caused a traffic backup on eastbound I-70 at mile post 205 just east of Lawrence Thursday afternoon.

A text alert from the Kansas Turnpike Authority said traffic was “at a stand still” just after 2:30 p.m.

Emergency crews cleared the highway by 3:30 p.m., but rush hour traffic combined with leftover congestion from the accident made for slow driving.

The amount of people injured and the severity of the injuries was not available.
