Summer styles transition well into fall

I want it to be fall, or at least less sweaty, sticky and hot all the time. So today I looked up the average temperatures for the first few weeks of August, and I just don’t think I’m going to get my way. Ninety degrees can’t possibly be less sweaty.

The transition from summer to fall is rough for everyone, especially those anxious to see the new fall trends filter into their favorite clothing stores.

In the interim, look out for a few items that you can wear right now.

Fishtail shirts:

Search for a T-shirt, long-sleeve top or tank with an updated shape. Find one that is shorter in front but longer in back (lengths will vary, so pick one that catches your eye). Fishtail tops are a fun basic that can be worn with skinny jeans or a skirt, depending on the length. The shirt’s shape creates an interesting visual line; if you want the shape to stand out, pair your fishtail top with a contrasting, monochrome bottom in order to provide a clear, defined background.

Ankle-length skirts or dresses:

For a sophisticated look, wear a long skirt or dress. Long skirts are for all ages, and they can be styled in a variety of ways. Wear your long skirt with boots and stud accessories for a military look, or sweeten up your skirt with a ruffled blouse and ladylike purse. The long dress or skirt creates a gorgeous silhouette, a popular alternative to the super-short dresses of summertime. But don’t get me wrong, an ankle-length skirt is anything but reserved. Instead it is incredibly urban and seductive.

Soft tops and blouses:

For an alternative to the ubiquitous, uber-menswear look that has been dominant for several seasons, try a softer, less-structured top. This is a perfect trend for the office, and it is an easy, dressy outfit for a weekday or weekend. Look for a shirt with a flowy design and ruffles, a muted crème or pastel color, and a soft, suede-like silk fabric.

Pair your blouse with skinny jeans or tailored pants and high-heel booties and your favorite, simple jewelry.

Classic items

If you find yourself in the mood to shop, try to purchase only classic items that you want to add to your wardrobe. An everyday pair of gold earrings and silver earrings, a go-to pair of black heels and brown heels, a jacket to wear with all of those dresses that you can’t really wear a jacket with … You will be thankful to have all of these essentials that you never seem to realize you need until, well, you need them.
