Police say investigation into weekend shooting continues

Lawrence police were still trying to identify who pulled the trigger in a Sunday morning shooting that injured eight people at a south Lawrence apartment complex, a police spokesman said Monday afternoon.

Detectives were running down leads as the investigation continued, Sgt. Matt Sarna said.

Police have said preliminary reports indicate an unidentified man standing outside The Exchange, a complex at 3100 Ousdahl Road, fired a handgun into an apartment striking several people. The shooting occurred about 2:30 a.m. Sunday.

Officers said the incident stemmed from a verbal altercation earlier in the evening at the residence. Witnesses have said there was a party in the apartment that night.

Police identified eight people who had either a gunshot wound or wounds associated with flying debris. None of the injuries was considered life-threatening, and Sarna said all victims are expected to make a full recovery.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Lawrence Police Department Detective Division at 785-830-7430 or the Crime Stoppers hot line at 785-843-TIPS.
