Jefferson County car chase ends in Douglas County near Midland Junction

A car chase out of Jefferson County ended with a man off the road north of Lawrence Monday night.

According to Jefferson County Undersheriff Bob Chartier, Jefferson County officers were dispatched west of Oskaloosa for a subject driving and armed with a knife. Chartier said the subject, a Kansas City, Kan., man, hit a patrol car attempting to stop him and left the scene.

Officers pursued the car, a blue Chevy Celebrity, at speeds higher than 80 miles per hour south out of Jefferson County toward Lawrence. Multiple Douglas County units were dispatched to intercept the car about 10:15 p.m.

Chartier said officers pursued him on N. 2000 Rd near Midland Junction, about three miles north of I-70 exit 204. A train was crossing the road, so the man reversed and rammed another patrol car. Chartier said the action disabled the man’s car, after which he was arrested.

Chartier said the man was booked into the Jefferson County Jail, but was later taken to an area hospital to be monitored.
