Emergency crews were able to put out a fire at an Indiana Street residence early Sunday evening.

According to Douglas County Emergency dispatchers, the fire was reported about 6:50 p.m. in a three-story building.

The caller reported the fire had started in the basement of the building and the first emergency units on scene advised smoke could be seen coming from the residence.

Emergency crews searched the building floor by floor starting in the basement. The fire did not spread to other floors and the smoke was allowed to dissipate naturally through open windows.

Crews on the scene gave the all clear command at 7:27 p.m.

The cause of the fire and estimated damages were not immediately available.

No injuries were reported.

Wonder if it was "accidental," Glad no one was hurt.

Why does the cutline under the video say Alabama St. and the story say Indiana St.? LJWorld's Twitter has been switching between the two streets as well. Which is it?

Thanks for pointing that out. The fire was definitely at Indiana Street, as first reported. Alabama Street was called out on the police scanner for a completely separate incident, which led to some wires being crossed. Sorry about that. All fixed now.

Why don't they ever report good details in the journal world. Like....what the house number was. They know. Why don't they tell us?

Well 10th & Indian street has 4 houses and 1 apartment building. 1010 Indiana was the site of a fire a couple years ago due to firecrakers( I think) it is a multi unit house. then there is 1020( multi unit house),1016 ( which is also a multi unit house) and 1012 which I don't know if it is multi unit or single family dwelling.

The video didn't have any narrative, but if you watched closely you could see the house number in the background.

Been in a few of these houses ... it's a wonder there haven't been fatal fires regularly. Pushing it.

yeah I'v been in 2 of them & have to agree at least about those and there was a fire at the house on the corner a couple years ago. They fixed it right up though so it is probably ok now.
