Rally against taxes and government spending held

About 200 stage anti-tax protest

? About 200 people on Wednesday attended an anti-tax rally outside the Capitol as the Kansas Legislature started its wrap up session.

Some of the participants held signs that read, “Don’t Mortgage My Future,” and “Stop Feeding the Bloated Pig.” The event was sponsored by the Kansas chapter of Americans for Prosperity.

State Rep. Kevin Yoder, R-Overland Park, who is chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, said the state needed to cut spending more. “It’s time government lives within its means,” he said.

Gordon Longabach of Lawrence attended the rally. He said he is mostly concerned about spending in Washington, D.C. “We’re going to be taxed to death,” he said.

Carol Moyer of Parsons said there are areas of the state budget that can take further cuts, including public schools.
