— A Republican state lawmaker is challenging Kansas Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins in the 2nd Congressional District.

Sen. Dennis Pyle, of Hiawatha, announced his run in the Aug. 2 primary on Tuesday.

Pyle says Republicans deserve a nominee who is truly conservative, although he was not more specific about why he thinks Jenkins is not conservative enough.

Jenkins’ campaign manager noted that last year, the first-term congresswoman earned a 92 rating on a 100-point scale from the American Conservative Union.

Pyle’s announcement was expected. He set up a campaign organization in November and has a website.

Pyle, a farmer, has served in the Legislature since 2001 and is one of its most conservative members on both fiscal matters and social issues such as abortion.
