Just 34 Westar Energy customers still without power

As of shortly before 6 p.m. Friday, just 34 Douglas County Westar Energy customers were without power.

As many as 1800 customers were without power when power went out about 3:22 p.m. and the current batch are further east than the original group, according to the Westar Energy website.

The major outage was concentrated along Sixth Street, west of Kasold Drive, while customers near Ninth and Iowa streets are currently without power.

Nick Bundy, a Westar Energy spokesman, said a snake in a transformer was the cause of the outage along Sixth Street.. He said the vast majority of customers got their power back when crews rerouted the power through a different transformer.
