Highway Patrol plans stepped up enforcement in Douglas County Saturday night

The Kansas Highway Patrol will crack down on drinking and driving around Lawrence this weekend.

Extra troopers will be sent to Douglas County to conduct a saturation patrol Saturday night.

Technical Trooper Edna Buttler said the additional troopers will begin their enforcement sometime after 9 p.m. Saturday.

“The idea is that extra troopers can go out and saturate an area, looking to remove impaired drivers and other serious violators from the streets,” Buttler said.

The Roving Aggressive Violation Enforcement is made possible through a grant from the Kansas Department of Transportation.
