Baldwin High culinary management team headed to national competition

? After winning a state culinary management competition for a second year in a row, a Baldwin High School team will head to nationals on May 1.

The BHS squad of junior Colin Thomas and sophomores Ellie Parr, Kara Hoegerl and Britton Schroeder defended the school’s championship during the state competition in Wichita. Their winning restaurant proposal is called the Cross Country Grill.

“We specialize in hamburgers,” said Hoegerl. “We are going to add another theme for nationals, but we still have five themes in our restaurant. We’re going to have Southwest, Hollywood, Beach, Rocky Mountain and New York themes.”

The Cross Country Grill will be decorated according to the themes. Each section’s booths and tables will be designed differently.

“Basically, we also have a burger to go with each region of the United States,” Schroeder said.

This year’s national competition will be in Overland Park.
