Burglary reported at Mass Street Music

Mass Street Music in downtown Lawrence was burglarized late Tuesday night. It is the fourth local business to be hit by burglars this week.

April 21, 2010, 12:57 p.m. Updated April 22, 2010, 12:41 a.m.

Lawrence police are investigating a break-in at another Lawrence business, the fourth business burglary this week.

Officers were called to Mass Street Music, 1347 Mass., about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Police spokesman Sgt. Bill Cory said a witness heard a window breaking at the business and called police.

When officers arrived, the suspect was gone.

According to police reports, a cash drawer and $200 in U.S. currency was stolen from the business. The total estimated loss from damages and stolen property was more than $1,700.

Three businesses in west Lawrence were broken into about 1 a.m. Monday. Those cases remain under investigation.

Good God, lg, not everything is O's fault. Try reading things as the are and not as opportunities to show your lack of understanding of things, like parental upbringing, culture, lack of education, stuff that helps create the climate in which criminals are created, few of which relate to the administration now in office. Just get off your high horse.

no kidding. It was bound to happen; SOMEBODY has to bring the president into this completely unrelated topic. Sad it was so soon.

Is there a reason you are a liar?

Crime is down from last year in most sectors according to national statistics.

However, liars are increasing on the far right. You have shamed your country.

somedude20 8 years ago

you can not be that dumb to believe that, can you?

Sure he can. Read a few pages of his profile, if you can stomach the vitriolic hatred. It's either that or he's insanely good satire of the lowest dregs in the conservative barrel.

WOW. Anybody who voted democratic might want to buy a house alarm and pepper spray. Apparently you're getting robbed real soon. Christ man, take that ignorance elsewhere.

You aren't Shakespeare either, you know.

You should try it sometime. They accept everyone apparently.

barry o told the country that evil rich people (for example, business owners like these victims) would be taxed so that the poor people wouldn't have to pay for health care, food, rent, etc

I'd like to see this quote, especially since he, himself...has money. Maybe he thinks he's evil though.

Oh thats right, he's the devil, he probably does.

You're an idiot. Seriously, a blithering idiot. I almost feel sad for you because of how stupid you are.

It's idiot posts like this (you) which is why I rarely look below the article. Typically, this comment section is populated by a festering bunch of loons looking to create a fresh pile of dung which they've succeeded in doing. Sure has a lot to do with a report about a robbery.

"Police are trying to determine what -- if anything -- was taken during the burglary."

Doesn't burglary by definition require something to have been taken? Otherwise it is just breaking and entering. :\

FYI They stole one of our cash registers (we had closed for the night and it was near empty) and made a big mess. Pretty much worth it if you ask me.

Just being informative.

I don't know why this story struck a chord with me. I hope they get this guy, or ensemble, and that this is his finale and an encore won't be forthcoming. Maybe the perps will be singing a different tune after LE throws away the key.

(Need a rim shot here. Nope? Damn. Guess he got the snare drum too.)

You're another blithering idiot. To quote Mr. Jon Stewart, "Go f**k yourself". :)

where do you dingbats come up with this nonsense. it's not even worth acknowldeging. please pretend your tornado shelter out in linwood is a 1950's a-bomb shelter and hide your ridiculous paranoia in it. take penders and some mres with you and don't come back. you like in the 1950's anyway, right?

They broke into a room with multiple $2,000 Taylor guitars hanging on the walls and stole only $200 in cash. Wow. They can't even commit crime properly

Nikki May 8 years ago

That's exactly what I was thinking. Really, $200. I guess it's not someone thinking this through.

jonas_opines 8 years ago

A lot harder to convert a Taylor guitar into other merchandise without waving the red flags, methinks. Cash is easy.

Jimbecile 8 years ago

Even with their inflated prices, there are some great instruments in the store. Grabbing a cash drawer shows that it was a simple crook, rather than some tweaked out struggling guitarist. I would have at least filled a couple cymbal bags before fleeing. I mean, if I were a thief, of course.

BruceWayne 8 years ago

betcha there is a cash register under the north Lawrence bridge.

How do people turn a news story into an Obama bashing? Sorry to hear about the robbery, JB. Good news that guitars were not damaged or stolen.

jonas_opines 8 years ago

"How do people turn a news story into an Obama bashing?"

One-track, undeveloped minds, in all likelihood.

whats_going_on 8 years ago

they do it on just about every story on this site.

No, I take that back...EVERY story on this site.

jonas_opines 8 years ago

To be fair, it happened a lot during the last presidency as well.

And amusingly, some of the current guilty parties were predictably the loudest in their protests of the tactic.
