Singler returning to Duke for senior season

? Duke’s Kyle Singler, the Most Outstanding Player of the Final Four, announced Monday night that he will return to school for his senior season.

Singler said in a statement released by the school that he was looking forward to one more year in college.

Rutgers star to Florida

Piscataway, N.J. — Rutgers leading scorer Mike Rosario is transferring to Florida.

Rosario said in a telephone interview Monday that he visited the university in Gainesville, Fla., over the weekend and told Gators coach Billy Donovan he would join the program.

Fort Worth, Texas — Denny Hamlin went ahead in the closing 12-lap shootout for a victory at Texas Motor Speedway on Monday, holding off Jimmie Johnson at the end to win another rain-delayed race.

Hamlin won for the second time in three races, both victories coming in races that were postponed by rain before being run on the first day of the week.

Kyle Busch wins No. 5

Fort Worth, Texas — Kyle Busch ended a long NASCAR doubleheader by completing an impressive drive for five.

Busch won his fifth consecutive Nationwide race at Texas Motor Speedway on Monday, joining two-time series champion Jack Ingram and Dale Earnhardt Sr., as the only drivers to win five consecutive races in NASCAR’s second-tier series at the same track.

New York — Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger violated the NFL’s personal-conduct policy, commissioner Roger Goodell said Monday. Goodell said on the Dan Patrick radio show the key issue is a “pattern of behavior” and “bad judgments.”

Boston — Let him be known from Hopkinton to the Back Bay as “Robert the Younger” — the second Kenyan named Robert K. Cheruiyot to win the Boston Marathon and the first person ever to run the legendary course in under 2 hours, 6 minutes.

Robert Kiprono Cheruiyot won the 114th Boston race Monday, finishing in 2:05:52 to shatter by 82 seconds the course record set by four-time winner Robert Kipkoech Cheruiyot, who’s not related. American Ryan Hall, who finished third last year, missed another spot on the podium by 2 seconds.
