A multiple vehicle accident in the westbound lanes of the Kansas Turnpike near the West Lawrence exit has traffic backed up for miles.

According to an emergency alert sent by the Kansas Turnpike, the accident has traffic backed up to mile marker 207, or halfway between the closed East Lawrence exit and the new Tonganoxie/Eudora interchange.

The accident happened about 1:30 p.m. There was no word immediately available about injuries. As of 2:30 p.m., the wreck has been cleared but traffic was still moving slowly.

Traffic is moving normally in the eastbound lanes.

No additional information was available Sunday evening.
