Douglas County sheriff’s deputies will be out in full force this weekend, hoping to keep impaired drivers off the roads.

The sheriff’s department is conducting a saturation patrol that begins at 11 p.m. Saturday and runs through early Sunday.

Deputies specifically will target impaired drivers but also will look for violations of speeding, seat belt and child restraint laws.

The special patrol is part of the Impaired Driving Deterrence Program, a partnership between the sheriff’s office and the Kansas Traffic Safety Resource Office.

The goal of the program is to reduce the number of deaths and injuries from vehicle accidents.
