100 years ago: YMCA set to put on show

From the Lawrence Daily World for April 14, 1910: “The ‘Better and Cleaner Lawrence Day’ is ready to begin with all sorts of public support, such as city facilities. Those in charge of the various operations have been named and seem eager to get to work. … A gymnasium exhibition will be given by the YMCA boys and it is due to be quite a show. There is no admission charge. … The gross cost of operating the county poor farm last year was $6,992.41. That includes the salaries of the commissioner, a physician and a superintendent of the farm, which produced edible items worth $1,194.92.”
