Suspect in rape cases returned to Kansas

? The Kansas Attorney General says a suspect in two 1981 rapes in Ogden has been returned to Kansas.

The attorney general’s office announced Friday that Daniel Brewer of the Bronx, N.Y., was extradited to Kansas. He is charged with raping two Ogden women in attacks in March and July of 1981.

Brewer was arrested in New York on Jan. 28. He arrived at the Manhattan correctional facility Thursday and is scheduled to make a first appearance Monday in Riley County District Court.

Brewer was charged in the March 1981 rape but jurors couldn’t reach a verdict and the charges were dropped.

The July attack led to the false conviction of Eddie Lowery, who spent 10 years in prison before being exonerated by DNA. Lowery received a $7.5 million settlement this year in a lawsuit he filed against 18 defendants.
