KU baseball triumphs over Creighton
Omaha, Neb. ? Tony Thompson’s RBI double in the top of the ninth inning lifted the Kansas University baseball team to a 5-4 triumph over Creighton on Wednesday at Rosenblatt Stadium.
The Jayhawks, who won their second one-run game against Creighton this year, improved to 19-10-1. The Bluejays fell to 14-9.
Just as they did in the March 23 meeting, Kansas and Creighton entered the ninth inning tied at four. Robby Price doubled, then Brian Heere moved Price to third with a single, before Thompson’s hit.
Thompson, a junior, went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
KU freshman Tanner Poppe earned his second victory after retiring the final hitter in the seventh inning and pitching a perfect eighth inning.
Price collected a pair of doubles and extended his hitting streak to 14 games. Price has a team-high 13 doubles this season.
Kansas will travel to No. 6 Texas for a Friday game at 6:05 p.m.
