A former local landfill was being returned to life as a nature area. The 201-acre refuge was four miles northwest of Lawrence near Highway 59. Lawrence Parks and Recreation was spearheading the effort and the site was to be used to display a wide range of trees and foliage.

The Kansas House was considering whether to give tax exemptions to alumni centers such as the Adams Alumni Center at KU. A number of citizens thought that taxes should be paid by such facilities.
