Officers searching vehicle just east of downtown

Five Lawrence police cars and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department K-9 unit are on the scene of a car stop in downtown Lawrence.

Around 2 p.m. Wednesday, officers pulled over a green four-door car in the city parking lot at Sixth and New Hampshire streets.

Police removed the driver and two passengers from the vehicle and at least three officers were searching the car.

Lawrence police spokesman Sgt. Bill Cory said the incident started as a simple car stop by patrol officers.
