Nobel laureate to speak at KU

A Nobel laureate who has worked to ban land mines will speak at Kansas University on Wednesday as part of Into the Streets Week.

Jody Williams, who won the 1997 Nobel Peace Prize for her work on the nonproliferation of mines, will speak at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Woodruff Auditorium in the Kansas Union.

Into the Streets Week is an annual spring event that focuses on volunteerism in the community. The event is organized by KU’s Center for Community Outreach.

The week is timed this year to coincide with the inauguration of KU Chancellor Bernadette Gray-Little. On Sunday, she will be officially installed as chancellor, and will commemorate the more than 74,000 hours of community service dedicated to the event.
