Truck accident closes part of Highway 59; road now open

An accident south of Lawrence Monday morning caused a semitruck to plow through a fence and become jackknifed in the road, blocking traffic on Highway 59, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

Sgt. Steve Lewis said the accident occurred when a northbound car driven by a 19-year-old drifted into the southbound lane of the highway, forcing the semitruck driver to take quick action.

The accident occurred at 457 E. 1250 Road, which is also Highway 59, located south of Pleasant Grove.

The driver of the car complained of neck injuries, but refused to be taken to the hospital, Lewis said.

Traffic flow was limited in the area for some time, but traffic in the area is now open.
