5:55 p.m. As of shortly before 6 p.m., the tornado watch has been lifted for counties adjoining Douglas County, including Leavenworth and Johnson, as well as for Wyandotte County.

Douglas County was never under a tornado watch. The watch continues for counties across Missouri and into Illinois, as well as two isolated counties south of the Kansas City metro in Kansas.

Storms are still possible across the region later tonight.

Our earlier story:

The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for counties east of Douglas County, including Johnson, Leavenworth, Wyandotte, Miami and Linn.

Thunderstorms are also possible for Douglas County and surrounding counties in northeast Kansas, according to the NWS.

These storms may be severe, with hail and damaging winds being the primary threats, although an isolated tornado is possible in the thunderstorms’ life cycles.
