Motorcycles are dangerous, I know because I ride. What make's it even more dangerous is the fact that motorists use their cell phone's, pull out in front of motorcyclists, cut into our lanes. and ride our rear wheels. Falling on a motorcycle will happen, but the likely hood of getting injured is decreased when motorists practice a little common courtesy and we all share the road. This courtesy should be extended to runners, walkers, and people on bikes as well. SHARE THE ROAD AND KNOW THAT WE ARE OUT THERE. Motorcyclist's, slow down and don't drive recklessly. Hopefully these things will cut back on death and injury completely.

Ride Safe.

We use "area hospital" when either, a) we know it's not LMH but we don't know which specific hospital the person was taken to or b) we know what hospital but for the individual's safety we're not revealing specifically which hospital it is. In this case, it's the former.

I was on the turnpike and was about 5 minutes behind this accident. the first cop had just arrived when I got there. from what I could tell the car rear ended the motorcycle. the car was I think a grand prix and had a bunch of front end damage, airbags deployed. the motorcycle was perpindicular into the cement median, completely torn up. no matter what happened, hopefully the driver of the cycle pulls through and the driver of the car will be more careful, as we all should.

Just want everyone to know, I know the driver of the car. They hit gravel from the road construction, and the car slid into the median. The motorcycle couldn't stop, and hit the side of the car. The biker was wearing a helmet and leather, so hopefully that helped. The driver of the car is a motorcyclist himself, and took this accident very hard. Just praying for the full recovery of the motor cycle driver.

I think they (KDOT) needs to put up some kind of baracade or something on the east bound ramp off the West Toll Exit. A lot of people don't realize the ramp turns--because nothing guides them -they think its a straight a-way. SCARY!!!! I think they need to realize that and take that into perspective. I pray the driver of the motorcyclist makes it..

I'm pretty sure I know who the motorcyclist was in this accident. He was taken to KU Med and was just taken off life support. God Bless him. He was a good man and a combat veteran of Viet Nam and Iraq.

jkealing: The map is wrong or the story is wrong. If they were getting on and headed east then the map needs to move east. This was closer to N Mich. than west of N Iowa. Can you check this out?

This accident cost America one more great hero. The motorcyclist was killed in this accident due to the inability of the automobile driver to operate his vehicle in a safe and responsible manner!

We lost a great American this weekend due to a tragic collision which could have been avoided had the driver of the car not been playing with his dog...attention to detail folks!

COL James Trafton will be missed more than many will realize!
