Big Springs Quarry reclamation removed from county meeting agenda

The Douglas County Commission has postponed its consideration tonight of a reclamation plan for the Big Springs Quarry west of Lawrence.

Assistant County Administrator Pam Madl said Wednesday morning that Commissioner Nancy Thellman had a family emergency and will not attend tonight’s meeting, which begins at 6:35 p.m. at the Douglas County Courthouse, 1100 Mass.

Two weeks ago, commissioners asked for county staff members to make recommendations on the finished elevation of the reclaimed land and how large lakes at the quarry can be.

Commissioners Jim Flory and Mike Gaughan will meet tonight to consider the consent agenda and a request to create a public road right of way for North 1675 Road to the west terminus of East 350 Road, which is about 7 miles west of Lawrence.
