Topeka ? National and state groups are preparing to renew the push in Kansas for a new comprehensive state program of road, bridge and public transport improvements.

The Kansas group Economic Lifelines and The Road Information Project, or TRIP, based in Washington, have a news conference planned for Monday at the Statehouse.

TRIP plans to release a report on Kansas roads and bridges, assessing the need for new projects.

A 10-year, $13 billion-plus program ended this June.

Many legislators are interested in starting another one but haven’t drafted ideas for financing it. Past programs have required bonds and tax increases, and legislative opposition to both has grown over the years.
