Kansas men’s golf takes 2nd

? Nate Barbee’s top career finish helped lead Kansas University’s men’s golf team to a second-place finish at the Jim Colbert Intercollegiate on Tuesday at Colbert Hills Golf Course.

Barbee, who entered the final round with the lead, shot 73 and tied for third place.

KU’s Bryan Hackenberg shot a final-round 72 and tied for eighth. Alex Gutesha carded an even-par 71 to tie for 11th. Chris Gilbert shot 78 to tie for 25th. Patrick Roth bested his first round score by six strokes with a 79 and placed tied for 45th. Jeff Bell, who competed as an individual, shot 69 and tied for fifth.

Blake Giroux shot a 79 to tied for 45th, while Bobby Knowles shot a 94 to finish 53rd.

Kansas State, the host school, won the event with a two-round score of 569. Joe Ida of Kansas State won medalist honors, besting Barbee by two strokes with a 142.

KU will host the Kansas Invitational Sept 28-29 at Alvamar.
